Decorex and design for living Exhibitions: Part deus, the revenge.

So as mentioned in my earlier post, we decided to do BOTH shows in one day, luckily Decorex closed at 5 or we would of had to toss the spare wheel to transport all the pamphlets.

Decorex ’07 has now finished, having run from the 26th-29th April, so I am going to tell you about it, but you can’t go.

This was the first time I have been to this show and I must say I was very impressed. Not just with the stands and the exhibitors, but with the convention centre itself. Wow, the CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Centre) is a world class structure, for a moment I thought I was in lost in Europe. My neighbour Simon, was one of the architects involved in the project, so we stood around in his part, for a while. Very nice, well done Simon.

Decorex is a large homeware exhibition which focusses on high end/high tech furnishings and fixtures. From Infra-red Sauna’s to a lovely drinks cabinet, which presents itself as two nozzles from which you can select a measured shot of whatever you fancy. The guy who was demoing it, was also its inventor and was shaking with excitement of just landing a contract to fit them in all the boxes of a Joburg rugby stadium. The calibre of visitor seems to be very high and the sushi-Champagne bar was working hand over fist.

No expense was spared on the stands , for which awards were given on the last day to those which were outstanding:

Best Large Stand on Show:
Marcelle Crowther – Hocus Interiors

Best Room Setting:
Ralph Krall

Best Fine Finishes Stand:
Marble Classic

Best Décor Inspiration:
Tattoo

Best Stand on Kitchens & Bathrooms:
Victorian Bathrooms

Best Small Stand:
On Q Design

Certificates of Excellence were awarded to:
Cabinet Works, Procraft Interiors, Plascon, Revel Stone, Raiel Marketing, Farriers, Hertex (by Colonial House Design), Beauwood Interiors, Silent Gliss, Cohesion, St Leger & Viney, Ensemble Trading with What Not Fabrics.

The judges were Clive Friedberg of Natural Fusion, Anne Roselt of Plascon and John Autard of the Institute of Interior Design Professions.

Hmmm, Plascon were the sponsors, one of the judges, and recipient of an award of excellence..How nice for them.
