Glencairn Whale Watching Viewpoint

On the lovely road that runs from Fish Hoek to Simonstown (a.k.a. Main Road, a.k.a. the M4), there’s a turnoff point near the hamlet of Glencairn, where motorists can stop for a moment and scan the smaller Simons and greater False Bays for sailboats, sharks and – during the season (Aug – Oct, roughly) – whales.

If there are no whales, the parking lot has two info boards for gawking at.

The stop is also a splendid place to eat one’s fish & chips, which, if one has planned properly, have been purchased at Fish Hoek Fisheries, just up the road. It’s clear from this pic that the Glencairn seagulls certainly appreciate such discerning taste!
