Overberg Fire Wreaks Devastation
The Western Cape’s summer has been a season of the elements – wind and fire, mostly.
Yesterday, what was described as “the worst fire in memory” destroyed large swathes of the Overberg and Swartland, ruining farms and wiping out precious fynbos. It continues to burn.
Smoke from the fire has left Cape Town, a hundred kilometers distant, in a light, gray haze – which is, however, unaccompanied by the smell of burning.
