Green Point Stadium Cape Town

Green Point is a custom built facility designed and constructed specifically for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament. The facility will replace an older stadium of the same name that was demolished to make was for the new Green Point Stadium. The old arena was a multi-purpose ground, used primarily for soccer, and was the home of local team Ajax Cape Town.

The Stadium

Green Point will have a seating capacity of 70,000. It is a purpose built structure situated in Cape Town adjacent to the Green Point Common, and close to Mouille Point, the Metropolitan Golf Club and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Complex, all within striking distance of downtown. Access is relatively easy via the M6 and M61 freeways that run adjacent to the complex, that will be served by a new road connection, and railway connections to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

During the World Cup Tournament Green Park Stadium is expected to host five first round matches, one second round match, one quarter-final and one semi-final match.
