South African webcams: Spy before you fly!

Webcams are a nice way to take a live peek at South Africa before or during your visit. Google earth is also great, but it’s a bonus to see it on ground level and get an idea of the weather conditions etc.

While you are here you may want look ahead at your daily destination to see what the weather/traffic/wind is doing, so that you make the most of the day and don’t miss out due to planning or lack of information.

South Africa has some nice web cams in some handy spots to help you plan ahead.

Cape Town Webcams:

N1 Highway by century city: Check the traffic before venturing out, this road can get hideous.

Bloubergstrand and Kitebeach: Take a look at the wind conditions before driving to the beach.

Table mountain: See what the “tablecloth” is doing before deciding on a hike or the cable car.

The City Bowl: This is what the mountain looks like from near the centre of town.

Top of the cable car: This is the view at the top of the cable car on Table Mountain, which may help you decision to ascend.

Cable car queue: The queue at the bottom of the cable car can get downright awfull, so take a peek here to see if you have the patience and enough snacks.

Laibach Wine Farm: Check the weather in Stellenbosch before making plans for wine tasting.

Muizenberg Beach: A favourite for families, learnner surfers and Great White sharks.

Strand beach: Actually Strand means beach in Afrikaans, so just Strand will suffice.

Safari Webcams:

Africam: My personal favourite; and assortment of streaming web cams with sound! Listen to the crickets and night, they go bananas.

Zulucam: located at a ‘watering hole’ at the Tembe Elephant Park in the north-east corner of South Africa, near the Mozambique border.

Sanparks web cam: Taken from the watering hole in Satara.

Garden route webcams:

Midafricam: A selection of cameras along the garden route and in Cape Town. including the Kaaimans River pass, Knysna, Victoria bay and Wilderness beach.
Knysna Heads: See why their number plate prefix CAW, stands for “cold and wet”

Jeffrey’s Bay aka Jbay: Drool over one of the best surf spots in the world.

Hermanus: Not really on the garden route yet, but along the way.. This is the place for seeing the spawning whales once a year.

George: The official start of the Garden Route, and gets more rain than..rainland.

Plettenberg Bay: This very popular beach town, is having horrendous floods right now!

Durban beachfront: Again stretching the Garden route a little but hey.
