Kitesurfing lessons at Cape Towns Kite Beach, Blouberg and Big Bay.

Kite surfing AKA Kiteboarding is one of the fastest growing water sports. So with Cape Towns legendary wind and mostly shark free waters, why not give it a bash whilst on holiday. It would be a shame to waste that expensive travel insurance.

The pioneers of flysurfing, as some call it, struggled with wholly unsafe gear that was mostly fabricated and low tech. Imagine being pulled around by a V8 Chevy. Nowadays things have changed dramatically, every season new kite designs get safer and more maneuverable, like a nippy mini cooper zooting overhead. (you get the picture)

Contrary to common sense, learning to kitesurf is not difficult. Just a few lessons (highly adviseable) and you will be up and annoying surfers in no time.

There are a number of operators in the area of Kitebeach/Blouberg/Big Bay, that offer lessons and range from R250 to R400 per lesson. (You’ll need 3-5 lessons) All the equipment is provided and of course lessons only run on days with wind, not normally a problem in summer.

The most established and respected of the schools in the area is run by Windsports (Shop 2 sea breeze centre, Marine Circle Tableview. +27 21 556 2765) They are the agents for “Best kiteboarding” in Cape Town and the gear is all top notch. The main emphasis is on safety and promoting the image of the sport.

All of the Instructors are I.K.O (International Kiteboarding Organisation) / BKSA, RYA Powerboat and First Aid Certified.
