Sea Kayaking in Cape Town

Something that I am very close to trying out, is Ocean Kayaking or Sea Kayaking. I am trying to make my mind up whether I can justify buying my own kayak or if I should rent one for a couple of days to see if I like it. You can buy 1 or 2 seater’s and they can be kitted out to take fishing gear etc. This appeals to me greatly although, I imagine it could get quite hairy if I hooked into something weighing more than say 10kg. I bet there is a whole lot of technique involved that I may lose a few fingers learning. No pain no fish.

Apart from the fishing, its great exercise and one of the more relaxing ways to enjoy the water if there is no wind for kiting or waves to surf. Kayaks can be rented from a few places:

Brian’s Kayaks is the biggest name in Kayaking in Cape Town and have a great shop in Paarden Island. (not really an island, but an industrial estate). Kayaks can be bought or rented as well as tours organised. https://www.kayaks.co.za/

On the Atlantic seaboard side, there is Coastal Kayaks, who do guided tours, sales and rentals they can be found at. www.kayak.co.za

There is also another place on Blouberg road, Tableview I think its called Surf Rentals? they sell second hand gear for surfing, kiting etc.

Also check out https://www.fluidkayaks.com/. These guys are in Parys (middle of nowhere) and are making some. New, very affordable roto-moulded kayaks for local and export markets.
