Bavarians Choose The Backpack as Brass Band Base

A traditional German brass band recently made Cape Town a stop on its grand tour of the seven continents – its mission: to foster new love for the oompah, complete with lederhosen! – and chose The Backpack as its home for the duration.

The band performed at the local German School in Tamboerskloof, made a guest appearance at the popular Paulaner Brauhaus restaurant at the V&A Waterfront, and – most intriguing of all – swapped notes in a jam session with The Backpack’s drumming master, Eddy (see picture). It’s not known how many djembes the band took back with them to Germany, but they certainly must have learned a few new beats!
