Cape Argus: Bicycles Fly First Class on British Air and kulula.com

With less than a month to go before the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour on 12 March, British Airways (which operates British/Com Air in South Africa) and kulula.com have announced that entrants can have their bicycles specially packed and shipped from most major South African airports to Cape Town and back.

The Cape Argus is the world’s biggest timed cycle race, and Cape Town’s single largest event, attracting cyclists in their thousands from all corners of the globe.

The special packaging comprises a large, heavy-duty cardboard box, wide enough to accommodate handlebars, and plenty of bubblewrap. The packaging costs R110 for the round trip – or just R30 if you want bubblewrap only, secured to your wheels with packing tape.

Reserve your bike box when booking a ticket with British Air or kulula.com; simply ask for the “Argus Procedure”. (Sounds like something you’d have done after the race, not before…)
