Further Insight & Opinion
This brand-new smoothie bar in the heart of the Cape Town suburb of Claremont is hard to miss – and once you’ve seen it, odds are high that you won’t be able to resist having a look around. Especially if you’re at all familiar with Fresh Stop’s parent company, Fruit and Veg City, which consistently offers the best produce in town.

Inside Fresh Stop, glass counters display dozens of tubs of freshly-chopped, in-season fruit. You point at the tubs that are making your mouth water; the fruit’s scooped up and blended with yoghurt, ice cream, or non-dairy ingredients; and there you have it. A 500 ml smoothie is just R9.95, which makes it the cheapest in town.

What can the smoothie wash down? There’s no shortage of accompaniments, from freshly-baked chocolate croissants to ready-made sandwiches. You can also take away a liter or two of freshly-squeezed juice. All told, Fresh Stop is a kind of heaven for fruit lovers – if you’ve planned a day’s shopping at Cavendish Square (just across the street), this is where you’ll want to break for lunch and snacks.
