Further Insight & Opinion
Turn into Kalk Bay Harbor for a fish & chips treat at colorful Kalky’s – always very busy, and always serving up a welcome variation on the standard offerings of hake and snoek.

You can, of course, find both fish on its menu, almost every day of the week – harbor-fresh, no less – but it’s worthwhile considering an order the day’s linefish instead (Kalky’s does yellowtail particularly well), and don’t forget that, unusually for a fish & chips shack, calamari’s on offer, too.

Tip: go with a friend, and, after you’ve decided on your orders while waiting in the queue, send him or her off to claim a much-prized table.

Kalky’s is number four on my list of the top five fish & chips outlets in Cape Town. It gets high marks for its picturesque setting and menu variety, and both its fish and chips are crispier and tastier than average.
