Snippet
Royale is a busy place, and doesn’t accept reservations; a good table-getting strategy is to arrive 1/2 hour earlier than you would normally dine. BUT Royale does have an extension which takes bookings – called Royale Kitchen and located just around the corner. Call in for a guaranteed off-Long Street seat.

Review
Providing creative, efficient solutions to all your burger consumption needs, Royale is one of the Seven Culinary Wonders of Long Street. (True, SA Blog has only identified one of the other six, but stay tuned.) Its art-bedecked walls

Close to a dozen burgers for carnivores are complemented by a similar number of burgers for veg-heads, and all are complemented by copious quantities of chips (French-style, sweet potato, wedge, or combo). The best burger on the menu is probably the Miss Piggy, with bacon and guac, but the chorizo-spiked Federale comes a close second.

That’s what my Lovely Assistant ate on our last outing there, while I sampled the new Uncle Morris burger, which, although relatively plain by gourmet standards, nonetheless did the trick. Her glass of Welmoed Shiraz, meanwhile, was slightly outpaced by my more refreshing Laurentina lager, the pride of Mocambique, and, for beer, a rare find in Cape Town indeed.

Royale is a busy place, and doesn’t accept reservations; a good table-getting strategy is to arrive 1/2 hour earlier than you would normally dine. BUT Royale does have an extension which takes bookings – called Royale Kitchen and located just around the corner. The Kitchen’s menu is slightly more limited than the main restaurant’s, but all the important burgers are there. Call in for a guaranteed off-Long Street seat.

Royale is an SA Blog “Best of Cape Town” establishment.
