Tasting notes
Your palate can’t normally tell the difference between organic and non-organic, but your gout-prone joints certainly can! So we’ll let the latter have the first words on this wine:

Ankle joint: Nary a twinge after several glasses!
Wrists: Went through like water!

As for the tongue, it can happily report that this merlot makes a very competitive showing among others in the SA mid- to high-priced wine market. It’s perhaps a touch too light for a merlot – auguring poor long-term storage prospects – but it has enough “grapeyness” to douse hot chillies, as any decent merlot should.

  • Get Stellar Organic wines at Woolworths, among other shops.

The Stellar Organics winery is some 300 kms north of Cape Town, in the spare but beautiful Namaqualand region. The farm not only produces a variety of organic and sulfite-free wines, but also attracts accolades from a Fair Trade perspective, because of its ownership structure (workers have a share in the farm’s profits).
