Black Stars Shine Through!

Halala! Ghana beat the USA 2-1 this afternoon to accompany Italy, Group E winners, into the World Cup’s round of 16. It was an engaging match, with a very soft penalty-spot call by the referee giving Ghana the edge. All the goals came in the first half – the USA created a few score-tying chances in the second, but couldn’t convert them.

Ghana are surprisingly quick, attack with great suppleness, and probably deserved the win. The USA, meanwhile, has been uninspiring (to say the least) throughout the World Cup. Most signifcant of all, though – Africa’s hopes are still alive! Don’t mention the fact that Ghana’s next match will almost certainly be against Brazil
