China Corner, Sea Point

(An SA Blog post in honor of the Chinese New Year.)

There is a little corner of China in Sea Point, Cape Town’s most interesting suburb – also the city’s most accessible, thanks to the minibus taxis that run from Strand St., downtown, to the end of Sea Point’s Main Rd. and back.

Tell the taxi driver to drop you at the corner of Main and Marine (click here for map), where you’ll find three Chinese-run businesses strung merrily in a row:

  • Chop Chop: Great Chinese take-out, especially the veg chow mein (R23), and quick to boot.
  • Empire Asia: Your Correspondent will go out on a limb, and call it the city’s largest Chinese buffet. Full a la carte menu, too.
  • South Asia Chinese Supermarket: Has everything Chinese you need, from green tea in bulk to black beans, and cheap AC adaptors to Tsingtao beer. Worth the browse alone.
