Vacation Rentals in South Africa
No matter why you travel to South Africa, renting a vacation home is a great option if you want to save some money but still benefit from the hotel-like facilities. Vacation homes are perfect for those who prefer the freedom of creating their own schedules but don’t particularly enjoy staying at expensive hotels or sharing rooms in hostels.
Popular Areas in South Africa
Eastern Cape is one of the most diverse areas in South Africa. There are beaches with great waves for surfers but there are also mountains with snow.
Free State region is known for its laid-back life where everything flows at a slow pace. Explore the land of diamonds and wine and complete the experience with a trip to the wine cellars of the Jacobsdal area.
KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo region are filled with incredible parks where you can watch the wildlife.
Head to the Western Cape for great beaches and entertainment and don’t forget to do some shopping while here.
When to rent?
The high season is considered September to April, but because of the numerous things to do and see in South Africa, you can come anytime you like. Ultimately it all depends on what you want to do here.
What to rent?
First of all you need to decide where you will be staying and what you will be doing so that you can pin point a location. Once that settled, decide how many persons will stay in the same house, how many couple and so on. Of course you need to figure out the cooking part too, since cooking at home will save you quite a lot of money.
Pay attention to the description of the house you want to rent. Make sure it has a fully equipped kitchen if you plan to do the cooking. Take a look at the facilities as well since they determine the price per day (or week).
Expect to pay about 390 ZAR /day for a cottage located at 5 minutes from the beach, in Cape Town. It comprises 3 bedrooms and can sleep up to 8 persons. The kitchen is fully equipped. In Johannesburg you can rent a similar home for 620 ZAR /day. It sleeps up to 6 persons and also has a swimming pool. Both are prices for the summer season of 2008.
Payment issues
Vacation houses can be rented directly over the web or from the owner. Most of the properties listed only offer the possibility the email the owner directly and the details will be discussed over the email.
Renting directly from the owner is quite easy as credit cards can be used, which protects you from fraud and cuts the commission for the wire transfer. Never wire funds or use a transfer mechanism such as Western Union.
